
Adelai was born in Pretoria and matriculated from the Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool in 1996.

She studied medicine but soon realised her passion for architecture.
She completed her B.Arch. degree at the University of Pretoria in 2002. Her thesis was:”Batho Pele Centre “for HIV/Aids infected mothers.
…”Architecture must be the beacon of coherence in the world we inhabit. We are living in an environment that is becoming too difficult to define or even understand. We need architecture to build and uplift our humanity again…”
Adelai worked at various architectural practices including internationally acclaimed JDDK in Newcastle UK, Studio 3 International Architects in Pretoria and JLB Architects in Cape Town. She was also the curator and manager at MVB fine art gallery in Brooklyn Design Square during 2006/2007. She is the eldest daughter of artist Marie Vermeulen Breedt and has a keen interest and knowledge of fine art.
She moved to Mossel Bay in 2008. She is happily married and the proud mother of 3 children.
